Fitzsimon's "Children of God"

9/29/2006 12:50:00 PM
When Chris Fitzsimon refers in his recent editorial to the term "the children of God" when describing the offspring of illegal aliens in his justification for providing them with in-state tuition, he is disingenuously trying to use the language of the Right as a rhetorical device to appear sympathetic to their values and still advance his anti-American agenda.

Using the language of your opposition is a valid rhetorical technique, but in this case it's not very persuasive. I don't recall Mr. Fitzsimon being a particularly religious person or using the concept of God to support his arguments before. And Mr. Fitzsimon seems rather selective in who he is willing to consider the "children of God." For example, I have not heard him use the term "children of God" for those who have not managed to get born yet. And I somehow doubt that he would be in favor of education vouchers, or even school prayer, for the "children of God."

Even if we accept his argument, being a child of God does not render you exempt from the law. I would have to tell those "children of God" that I'm sorry that your parents thought so little of you that they chose to break the law and leave you at risk, but because of their actions to enter the country illegally and take advantage of taxpayers, we cannot honor your claim on the money or property of law-abiding, genuine American citizens.

Netroots Activist Launches Network

9/18/2006 04:53:00 AM

From the Press Release:

"Western North Carolina News Network (WNCNN), created by local political organizer, Gordon D. Smith, is political satire presented as a cable news program in the vein of Steven Colbert's The Colbert Report and Jon Stewart's The Daily Show. WNCNN will air weekly on Mondays on numerous internet sites including YouTube.com beginning on September 18, 2006. The series intends to highlight the shortcomings of Republican incumbent Congressman Charles H. Taylor through the use of satire, sarcasm, and visual humor.

More at his blog, Scrutiny Hooligans.

Here is a taste of one one his clickable sidebar graphics, released for people to use on their websites to link to his anti-Taylor Video Campaign.

See the video yourself below:

What can Taylor supporters do in response?

Well, first off, watch the ad, and pay attention. This is the shape of things to come, due, in part to The McCain-Feingold Act, and in part to the increasing availability of technical means to the average citizen in America. The first reason is bad, the second is neutral, it is what you make of it.

I expect some of us to be inspired to respond to this in our own way.

Second Bilingual Health Fair

9/16/2006 01:31:00 PM

Second Bilingual Health Fair
First Presbyterian Church
Church Street, Franklin, NC
Sat 10 am - 2.30 pm

This is the First presbyterian Church where the fair was held.

Church Auditorium.
There were many health-Related exhibits along the perimeter of the auditorium, most of them geared toward children, and a few toward their mothers. All exhibits were in English and Spanish.

Here is a Video of a performance, and a pan and scan of the audience, and most notably one of the displays.
Video Length 3 minutes. Size 55.35 MB.
*Note--I can't get the video to play at the library.
Problem solved, it requires Flash Player 8 or greater to play.

The display is geared toward pregnancy, with services offered 'gratis', and abortion referrals. Notice a shot of a booklet about RU-486 next to a basketful of candy.

Here is another crowd shot.

Click Here to see a full-size display from the Macon County Health Dept.

There were approximately 150 people who attended the event up until 12.20 pm according to one of the volunteers, who noted that last year, there had been three times as many by this time. When I asked her what she thought the reasons were, she said that the event hadn't been well advertised.

About half the attendees were children under about 12 or so, and nearly all were involved in the activities or watching the performances on the stage.

This is called "The Old Man Dance," and I shot it up front, and it ends on the stage, where I get a quick shot of the crowd.
Video Lenght: 1 Min 46 Sec Size: 32.66 MB

This was a practice run for me so I can be better prepared for more serious events in the future as we deal with the impact of this mostly Illegal Mass Migration into our area of the state. We need to start training more Citizen Activists to go to these events, and be prepared to spread the word about what is going on before our very eyes!!!

Duane 'Dog' Chapman Needs Your Help

9/16/2006 06:32:00 AM
I have never watched his show.
All I need to know is that he is an American Citizen under danger of being extradicted to Mexico for bringing a slimebag richboy back to America to face justice.
Too bad the U.S. Marshals wasted resources bringing him in, when they should have been in Mexico following 'Dog' The Bounty Hunters' lead.

This may be the Elian Gonzales moment
of the Bush Adminstration.

I am not one to present a plea for help without giving you the means to help, so here goes:

Flawed Reasoning

9/06/2006 01:16:00 PM
NC Policy Watch Daily Radio Commentary
Odd Plea From Republican Official
By Chris Fitzsimon
Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

(In response to George Keller's guest commentary in the AC-T.)

Response to Radio Commentary:

It's obvious to me that Chris Fitzsimon is a Democrat, and I'll tell you why.

In the guest commentary, George Keller takes a tough and principled stand on runaway spending in North Carolina.

In the radio commentary by Fitzsimon he says that "the only conclusion to draw" from Keller's commentary is that he is calling for voting out 25 Republican members of the General Assembly because they voted for a reckless state budget.

He is implying that Keller is conflicted and is mistakenly condemning those of his own party.

There's just one problem with this analysis: Fitzsimon's commentary is based on the faulty premise that corruption should be overlooked if it so happens that the corrupt belong to your own political party.

He is implying that George Keller naturally should be mum about problems in his own party.

What Fitzimon conveniently ignores is that Keller simply states a sound political principle that he believes in regardless of who that might paint as the villain.

Apparently what Mr. Fitzsimon would do is overlook corruption and misdeeds in his own party whereas Keller would not.

He goes on to state that Keller somehow inadvertently endorsed a Democrat because that Democrat did vote against the budget.

He concludes by stating that "This is what you get when demagoguery overpowers the facts."

The sad fact is that this radio commentary is what you get when simple-minded, partisan tribalism overpowers principle.

Heath Shuler Post for Sept 6th

9/06/2006 01:32:00 AM
Note: This article is also posted at Thunder Pig

There are only 62 days left until the 2006 midterm elections.

Below are a couple of snippets found on the internet:

Driven by their faith and committed to the common good, the candidates below exemplify what FaithfulDemocrats.com is all about. They are now in close and critical races for the most important offices in the nation—Congress, Senate, and Governor. And they need your help.

Please make a contribution to one or more of these candidates in order to help make America a more just and compassionate place.

FaithfulDemocrats.com is a division of Faithful Media, Inc., a nonprofit corporation.

Below that introduction, there are 6 faithful democratic candidates listed, the last of which is our very own Heath Shuler. His introduction below:

Heath Shuler “I have never shied away from openly discussing my faith. Throughout my high school, college, and professional career, I have been an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a spokesman for Character Counts. I have spoken to thousands of students across the country, sharing my testimony and trying to be a positive role model for them. Nikol and I are now raising our two children in the mountains of North Carolina with the same values that we were raised with.”

Source for the two above snippets.

I can't help but wonder if Heath Shuler will be treated any better than Joe Lieberman, another faithful democrat, albeit of the Jewish faith; and considered a conservative democrat.

If we are to believe Heath' claim to be conservative, will the dems relgate him to a corner until they can find a more progressive candidate to take his place, should he win in November?

Asheville is as blue as blue gets, but the rest of the district is conservative and rural.

Patsy Keever was a good candidate in 2004, but Taylor was able to tar her with the "Lib-ruull woman from Asheville" brush which was quite effective. Even worse was that DCCC was running the almost the same commercials for her as the DSCC was running for Inez Tennenbaum in SC, giving credibility to Taylor's "she's not one of us" frame.

Heath Shuler doesn't have any of these liablities, and is probably the strongest candidate the Democrats can get. Taylor is hardly loved in this district and if Keever could come within 10 points, Shuler should beat him handily.

Source.

That is how they see our district at DailyKos, "rural and conservative" only they mean it as a perjorative, I take it as a badge of honor, as I would hope that Heath would.

The main question I have for you today is this:

If elected, would Heath Shuler remain true to his heritage as a rural southerner, or would he be like so many of our children who have left our mountains to leave a friend, and return a stranger?

Right now, I can't answer that question.

Democrcy Is Immoral

9/01/2006 07:38:00 PM
We do not live in a democracy. Nor should we.

Why is our constitutional republic preferable to a democracy?

A democracy is where a majority dictates to the minority whether its rights will be protected or violated.

A constitutional republic is based on the concept of the sovereign individual. We individuals are the source of political power and we loan our power to representatives and we delegate our right to self-defense to the judiciary and the military.

Besides democracy, other forms of government can violate individual rights:

The very foundation of socialism is the violation of rights; particularly property rights. Statism, monarchy, feudalism all rest on an arbitrary power relationship that places the individual at the mercy of a ruler. Democracy is no better because a democratic form of government offers no guarantee that an individual's rights will be protected.

The proper form of government for a free people is constructed to absolutely protect individual rights regardless of the shifting moods of the masses. That protection is not guaranteed by any other form of government than a constitutional republic.

CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS ALERT !!!

A Letter To My Governor

By Fax to: (916) 445-4633
Governor Arnold SchwarzeneggerState Capitol BuildingSacramento, CA 95814

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger:

I'm writing to urge you to veto AB2948 (Umberg), a bill that would radically change the way that Presidential elections are held in the United States.
The bill - through an interstate compact - effectively abolishes the Electoral college and substitutes the results of the popular vote. While many people complain about the process or results involved in our creaky Presidential election process, I'd like to point out a few things and ask you to consider them as you weigh your response to this bill. iohya

This is something that should bring us all into the streets, even more so than the Illegal Alien Invasion Victory Parades of the spring. If you have a blog, or are a caller to a talk-radio show...
Please read the story at Winds of Change, and link to it, talk about it, and call the Governator.
Tell him this would destroy our Constitution beyond repair !

For Your Information, I have been monitoring an unconstitutional multi-state compact in the process of formation. This compact would forever alter the way we elect Presidents, and destroy the last vestiges of our Constitutional Republic. I view this activity as treasonous, and it must be stopped !!! And somebody tell The President the difference between a Democracy and a Republic !!!
