Moonbats in Asheville Desecrate American Flag
7/26/2007 05:52:00 AMASHEVILLE — A couple who said they were protesting the state of the country by flying the U.S. flag upside down with signs pinned to it found themselves in jail following a scuffle with a deputy Wednesday morning.
Mark and Deborah Kuhn were arrested on two counts of assault on a government employee, resisting arrest and a rarely used charge, desecrating an American flag, all misdemeanors. The Kuhns were released from custody Wednesday afternoon.

Ever notice how libs want to use the force of government on those they oppose, and cry like babies with diaper-rash when the government uses force on them?

If you've read many of these columns you know I'm addicted to politics.
My spouse, among others, tells me to cut it out from time to time. You may also know I live in a restored farmhouse, at the end of a half-mile gravel road, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There IS a connection between those two facts.
Consider what happens to anyone in a high position in American politics - or running for such a position. I've observed the behavior of many men and women who are - or are running to be - Members of Congress, Senators, or worst of all, President. Notice that no one ever publicly runs for the job of Vice President. It is just the booby prize for some
who ran for President and didn't make the grade.
Henry Cabot Lodge, about fifty years ago, was the only person I recall who said he was running for Vice President. Since he'd already debased himself with that comment, he did not achieve his minor goal. But I digress.
You, too, have seen enough of the behavior of these people so you can affirm what I am about to say. These people are protected from reality. The higher the office they hold, the greater the phalanx of eager beaver staff they have, to shape, mold, spin and outright lie to make every word from the Great One's mouth seem like commandments from God. And
furthermore, the first, last, and greatest role of all those staff members is to assure the Great One that he, or she, is right.
Back in 1968, Life magazine ran a photograph of Gene McCarthy on its cover. He was all by himself, paddling a canoe on some backwoods stream. The point was, of course, that he "went his own way." But ask yourself this question. Have you ever seen a photograph of any of the current politicians, out in the real world, by himself or herself?
Never. They don't do that. More's the pity, because that's part and parcel of why they are divorced from reality.
Every single day, I look at the changing light, color, shadows and weather, on the Blue Ridge Mountains. Those mountains were here, 250 million years before I was born. They will be here 250 million years after I'm gone. That sort of reflection goes a long way toward "taking a fella down a peg or two," as they say hereabouts. Or, in language more common elsewhere, the majesty of nature teaches humility to mere humans.
My family is wont to say that I need such an education from time to time. But compared to "leading" politicians, I am a piker in the ego department. Because I've spent hundreds of hours in the company of Representatives, Senators, Candidates for President, and occasional Presidents, I can vouch for this conclusion: Most of them are corrupted by their environment. Very much like the tales one reads of English and French nobility, being surrounded by an environment which treats them better than everyone else, they come to believe that they ARE better than everyone else.
With your observation of "higher" politicians, do you reach the same conclusion? Do you also conclude that the exceptions to that rule, the politicians who are not full of themselves, are few and far between?
While we're on that subject, let's talk about state legislators. I've often said, and put in writing, that the Congress of the United States would improve vastly in competence, honesty and fair representation of the people, if all the current Members of Congress were put out on the street, and replaced with state legislators chosen at random. The reasons for that are two - most state legislator's constituents can reach them with a local phone call, and most state legislators have nothing like the insulating, groveling staff that Congressmen do.
So, I propose the front porch rule to evaluate candidates who want high office. Sitting on the porch means simply being a certain place. But "settin' on the porch" has a more complex meaning. It means being in an old-fashioned rocking chair, on a wooden porch, with good friends, having a good conversation, probably about the time the sun's going
down.
Ask yourself if a given candidate would look comfortable and content, "settin' on the porch" with you and yours. If not, it just may be that candidate has spent entirely too long, isolated from the real world, and needs to be retired from politics for a spell to get his or her head on straight.

Come on, Asheville! That is NOT A LEAD STORY, especially if nobody is suing!!

BLACK CAN SIT AND THINK NOW by WNCCB2
Jim Black receives a fitting sentence with MORE charges yet to come!
Hey. A five year loan of $500,000 yields nearly $100,000 in interest
if invested at all… Maybe more. So even if Jim Black gave the
principal of the loan back, what did he do with the $100K? Simple. It
is documented he gave money to the campaigns of other Democrats
including our state Attorney General. What a guy!
No wonder the Governor would not prosecute the man. Everybody got a
piece of pie.
And this Governor may challenge Elizabeth Dole’s Senate seat?
Oh yeah. We want this guy in Washington. No thanks.
This bull****t of one politician being allowed to shuttle funds to
other campaigns has to stop. Period. You raise what you raise for
yourself.
But no tale of Jim Black would be complete without a poem:
---
Jim Black’s going to jail,
He tried to weasel out,
He’s looking awfully pale,
There’s no more arrogant shout.
The man has finally caved,
His days on earth will wane,
He never again will rave,
He’s probably in lots of pain.
He told Rhodes he wasn’t s***,
On the floor of our own House,
But when the piper split,
Black was found a louse.
And now the story’s told,
There’s not much left to fight,
It never will get old,
To know that Rhodes was RIGHT.
---
Thanks John Rhodes!
YOU ARE THE MAN.
You felled the first tree in the forest of corruption.
And you withstood the hatred spewed at you by every legislator
bootlicker when you told the TRUTH. Who’s crying now Mr. Black?
Who’s next on the list John?
I saw about thirty names on a list of campaigns that received money
from Black.
Where is the Federal investigation into that?
I doubt Mr. Attorney General will voluntarity investigate himself and
his friends.
After all, if Black was a master of getting tainted money,
then it follows that some of those dollars ended up in those other
campaigns.
Maybe they should all just give the money back? Ya’ think?
And where was Jim Black’s contrition and offer to “help the
poor”,
when he was ripping off this state, redistricting against the will of
the people, stealing control and foisting untold billions in new
taxes on us all for things we don’t even want?
Erase his name from the 20 page HISTORY report he commissioned.
What a joke.

North Carolina Conservative Disavows Nesbitt Indictment

In regards to the stories here, and here, the North Carolina Conservative has posted the following:

Commentary
Someone sure wanted to see (and got) a lot of buzz surrounding State Senator Martin Nesbitt and the North Carolina Conservative, to what ends, I can only speculate.
I think that if there is corruption involved, it will be a long hunt, as it was with
Jim Black. That very case was the reason I started this blog, to get a feel for how things were going in North Carolina politics since the days of Jim Hunt, when I last knew what was going on...
Important message, please read
An article has appeared on blogs and been forwarded through email lists, claiming that Sen. Martin Nesbitt is under federal investigation. The article is being attributed to The North Carolina Conservative. However, no article has been written or published by our publication regarding this matter.
Although we have heard similar rumors, the NCC does not know if anything in the email concerning Sen. Martin Nesbitt is valid. We are trying to find out the facts, so we can either confirm or debunk the email, but it is the policy of the Justice Department to neither confirm nor deny any investigation into anyone. At this time, and unless facts prove otherwise, the NCC accuses Sen. Nesbitt of no wrong-doing.

The NY Times editorial opinion makers have finally admitted their position as liars and traitors by demanding our immediate withdrawal from Iraq. (re: this week's pro-genocide Editorial)
Just when the surge has produced a great majority of secure areas inside Baghdad (conveniently ignored - go look at a map you buffoons) and the terrorist elements coming under increasing pressure from united Anbar tribes, and from Sunni AND Shiites all opposed to Al Qaeda in Iraq, the NY Times in its infinite wisdom has planned our submission to Islamic Fascism. Why don't you publish the comparative summaries of areas that were lawless but now moving along the multi- stage timeline to Iraqi control? Because it cancels your insipid generalist arguments. You ignorant people make me sick.
Iraq is a front in this world war, and as distasteful as that must be to the very intellectual, we have been making phenomenal progress there. The insurgency leadership is in disarray, running from the capital and launching last gasp efforts to undermine the legitimate government of Iraq. Yes, there will be bombings until we hunt every last one down, and imprison or kill them. Does anyone remember that the Nazi holdouts after World War II operated for seven years after the fall of Berlin? Anybody among you intellectuals?
But your paper prefers genocide and an Islamic caliphate established by neighboring Iran, than finishing what we have invested so much time and energy in to complete. Do you also advocate just releasing murderers from their life sentences in U.S. prisons so they can return to rampaging through our cities decimating our populace. You act as if everything was just perfect before we went over there.
Stop lying. The WMDs have been transported to Syria and some are buried in the Bekaa valley. You know this and refuse to relate it. You have lost all credibility as a news source these past years. You are nothing but a rag.
All the news that's fit to distort.

BREAKING--NC Senator Nesbitt To Be Indicted?

Apparently, this story is in the early breaking stages, although former NC Senator RL Clark has warned us of it for over a year. Thanks to all who forwarded the following to me...
At this point in time, the email I forwarded that was attributed to the NC Conservative should be treated as rumor and nothing more, as the newspaper has not published this report, and has not yet been able to confirm the report (which had been forwarded to them, as well.)This report has appeared on several blogs and emails, and is written as a newspaper report. However, until and unless we are able to hear from the Justice Department that the report is factual, the allegations are nothing more than conjecture.I would encourage those that forwarded the report to me, and those that forwarded the report I sent out, to inform your email list that the report is, at this time, not supported with any evidence of its validity.

Raleigh, NC -- North Carolina's Democratic State Senator Martin Nesbitt may soon be indicted on Federal racketeering and money laundering charges from his repeated funneling of state budget funds through the statewide Blue Cross/Blue Shield non-profit organization, while the company sponsored the
personal investments of the State Senator and members of his immediate family.
According to highly placed anonymous sources, the investigation from the U.S. Department of Justice could be made public in the coming days as undercover operations are concluded. It is unknown whether this investigation has any correspondence to the earlier Federal investigation undertaken to uncover corruption inside the North Carolina State House.
Senator Nesbitt could not be reached for comment but a spokesperson stated, "The Senator will deny all charges."
Officers of Blue Cross have stated that they are not aware of any wrongdoing, and only responded to Senator Nesbitt's request for sponsorship funds totaling millions of dollars because the Senator worked on behalf of the company in securing state funding for its operations budget.
Apparently, tax dollars intended to supply health care needs for children and other vulnerable populations were siphoned off in a scheme to underwrite the racing business of Senator Nesbitt. While officials are hesitant to release any documents at this time showing the connection between the two,
other former Senators have noted and forwarded materials to the press over several years, with little or no action taken against Senator Nesbitt to date.

PRESS RELEASE
Senate Republican Leader
Senator Phil Berger
26th Senatorial District
Phone Number: (919) 733-5708 North Carolina Senate
1026 Legislative Building Raleigh, NC 27601
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 3, 2007
Democrats’ Only Answer: “Hike Taxes”
Existing Revenue Structure Adequate say Republicans
Legislative Democrats continue to push tax hikes on North Carolina ’s families despite a second consecutive budget surplus of more than a billion dollars (2005-2006 surplus $2.4 billion; 2006-2007 surplus $1.5 billion). Fresh from voting for a Continuing Resolution that breaks repeated promises to sunset “temporary” taxes enacted in 2001, Democrats offer only one answer to their current budget impasse – more and higher taxes. They ignore the fact that North Carolina taxpayers already shoulder the heaviest tax burden in the southeast and one of the highest in the nation. Even though the Democrat controlled General Assembly has been in session since January and the primary order of business is the adoption of a state budget before the June 30 end of the state’s fiscal year, Democrats voted to give themselves an additional month to decide which taxes they will hike.
Over the past several weeks Legislative Republicans have outlined a way to address North Carolina’s growing transportation and infrastructure needs, presented a workable plan to enable the state to assume the full burden of Medicaid, and set out a budget proposal that, if enacted, would eliminate the Democrats’ 2001 “temporary” income and sales tax increases, fully fund government services, and provide a state budget surplus within existing tax rates. Rather than adopt, or even address, the Republican proposals, Democrats continue to search for the “right” tax, or taxes, to raise and continue to finalize plans for spending even more money.
Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) made the following statement:
“Republicans, like most North Carolinians , do not think the State needs an additional hike in sales, income, or any other taxes. We have consistently said the problem is not that the state taxes too little, but that the Democrats in the Legislature spend too much. Especially now, with the issue of trust in government being front and center because of ongoing Democrat ethical scandals, it is time repeated promises to eliminate ‘temporary’ taxes be kept.
“Senate Republicans supported Senate Democrats and their version of a new State budget because it kept the promise of tax relief for the people of North Carolina and was the right step to help restore the credibility of state elected officials. Republicans are prepared to work on a bipartisan solution finalizing a state spending plan, but will not support taking more money from North Carolina ’s citizens at a time when state government has a surplus of over $1.5 billion.”

North Carolina Panda Press Release
7/01/2007 06:15:00 PM
Press Release
Asheville, NC- On Monday, July 2 FreedomWorks activists, including the ‘stop pandering-Panda’ will be making an appearance outside Congressman Heath Schuler’s Asheville office. The Panda will be joined by 10-20 activists from FreedomWorks’ North Carolina chapter to educate voters on recent votes Congressman Schuler cast to gasoline prices and limit domestic energy production, making America more dependent on foreign sources of energy.
The Freedom works Panda Poses with Al Gore
Allen Page, FreedomWorks’ Southeast Director, commented:
“Congressman Schuler is supposed to be Blue Dog Democrat, but for someone who claims to be a fiscal conservative, he’s not taking real life economics into consideration on his energy votes. His recent vote on the Energy Policy Reform and Revitalization Act helps to limit development of domestic energy sources, thereby increasing gas prices.”
“Limiting domestic production will do nothing to relieve energy costs; in fact it will make them worse. If we want to see gas prices come down we need to increase the supply. Congressman Schuler needs to understand that although his votes satisfied the Hollywood elite, he is raising costs for hardworking North Carolinians at the pump.”
FreedomWorks is a national grassroots organization promoting lower taxes, less government, and more freedom, including 26,000 members in North Carolina .
The FreedomWorks Panda has been seen at many events, most recently at an Al Gore book signing and an AFL-CIO rally by the US Capitol.
